Can you control your lights with Zabbix? Of course you can!

As I told during my Zabbix Summit 2023 speech, there will be a blog series about how I control my home with Zabbix. Let's start with how I control my home office lights -- or any light connected to our Cozify -- with it.

First of all, in Cozify I have the office light (Philips Hue) like this.

But how to see and control that in Zabbix? Well, for watching the status, my Zabbix is collecting all the variables about the light it possibly can.

For performing the actual actions though, I then need to hook some external scripts to my Zabbix. These manual scripts are used both by my Zabbix context menu and my Siri Shortcuts.

Here's the screenshot of the Siri shortcut:

... and here's how it looks like in my Zabbix context menu when I click on my Zabbix server.

Okay, but where are all the scripts coming from? How I'm doing this? Please hold, as I'm also testing all this with the upcoming Zabbix 7.0, which allows me to create my own widgets, and also scripts that ask for user input and then apply the parameters for the scripts.

I have something MUCH better cooking for Zabbix 7.0. However, if you really would need any of the details for this post, please feel free to reach out to me. It's just that since what I learned from Alexey's comment immediately after my speech at Zabbix Summit 2023, and what we did during the Zabbix 7.0 widget workshop during the summit, I feel that this entry is already old.
